Truly Hopeful News on Joe Cronin

By Charlie Johnston

As of this afternoon, it looks as if Driscoll Hospital is going to help facilitate the transfer of Joey Cronin to another Hospital – HealthBridge Hospital in Houston. Yeah, I have not covered all details during some incredibly tense moments throughout this morning. But it looks now like the legal infrastructure is going into place to see the transfer through. Driscoll does not seem poised to make any more efforts to declare brain death – and instead is helping facilitate the transfer…and it looks like HealthBridge is about to clear all the bureaucratic hurdles necessary to make it a reality.

I do not know what God’s final intention in this is, but I feel more confident than I have since this has started that Joey is firmly in God’s hands now rather than man’s.

My Lord, how I thank you all for your prayers and your direct efforts to give this boy a chance. Tons of websites have reprinted the story – and I will send notes thanking the operators of each next week. EWTN has gotten involved, the Catholic News Agency, LifeSiteNews, several Texas television stations. It is because you rallied with fortitude and firmness, but with grace and refinement. You folks created a groundswell. You don’t have to shout and holler and be filled with angry recriminations to make things happen…you have to set your shoulder to the plow and man your post with fortitude and endurance. Your calls bought Joey time. You set your shoulders to the plow, didn’t worry what you couldn’t do and DID what you could with grace and fortitude – and together you moved mountains. Just last night, the Alliance Defending Freedom jumped in in a big way and they will be with Joey and his family throughout. If you decide to donate to their site, please make sure to note your gratitude for what they are doing for the Cronin family. They are short on talk and long on action, God bless ’em. Thanks be to Corpus Christi Bishop Emeritus Gracida, who smoothed the way quietly in the background for so much in all of this. It is not time to let our guard down, but the alert status has been reduced from red to at least orange – and maybe even yellow. I will keep you advised of any important updates.

I am in tears of gratitude for all of you right now. It may be because of the emotional release at seeing the first real glimmer of light at the end of this tunnel. It may just be because I am utterly exhausted.

George and Susan Cronin asked me to pass on their profound gratitude to all of you. They are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, prayer, practical help and support you have all rallied to on behalf of their son. I just told George I am going to go take a nap. He told me he can’t yet, but asked if I would offer up maybe 40 winks on his behalf. Done.

This, my friends, is what faith in action looks like.

About charliej373

Charlie Johnston is a former newspaper editor, radio talk show host and political consultant. From Feb. 11, 2011 to Aug. 21, 2012, he walked 3,200 miles across the country, sleeping in the woods, meeting people and praying as he went. He has received prophetic visitation all his life, which he has vetted through a trio of priests over the last 20 years, and now speaks publicly about on this site. Yet he emphasizes that we find God most surely through the ordinary, doing the little things we should with faith and fidelity. Hence the name, The Next Right Step. The visitations inform his work, but are not the focus of it. He lives in the Archdiocese of Denver in the United States.

I think you meant the Cronin family, not the Driscoll family. 🙂 Thanks you for your efforts on behalf of this boy.

I am weeping also Charlie with relief and profound gratitude for seeing the kingdom of heaven come to earth through people of good will. Thanks be to God. Have a really good rest, dear Sherpa.

Thanks be to God!!!! I posted the news to my family and friends who have been praying and getting others involved as well. Blessings on Joe and his family with great gratitude.

But also — maybe this was a bit of a practice run. Everybody here accessed different networks and connections, and here we all are today. May the good work continue with no more reversals or setbacks for the Cronins. And may we all continue to put what we have learned to good use. Blessings all around!

And I think I can confidently say, on behalf of everyone here, thank YOU Charlie for manning the captain’s chair. You have continually shown us the example of what we need to follow, acknowledging God, taking the right next step, & being that sign of hope. I know everyone here is grateful to our Lord for the opportunity to defend our brother, Joe Cronin. Let this be an example to each of in trusting when we each face out own trials to come.

But, let’s not let up folks. Lord Jesus, we trust in You to protect Joe Cronin and his family. We ask for the intercession of the Holy Family that the graces needed to defend this family are granted. Amen.

Ven. Archbishop Fulton Sheen, we ask your intercession for the full recovery of Joe Cronin. Amen.

This event reminds me of the story Mary of Agreda tells in her book Mystical City Of God about the three day search for the lost Jesus when he was twelve years old. She related how St Joseph was on the verge of expiring and she had to intervene for him to stop this from happening.
Charlie, you have been so diligent on this one I’m sure you made St Joseph proud and I’m sure Our Lady intervened for you too!
    God Bless You.

Well done! It strikes me that we often don’t really know how many good people are “out there” until a crisis hits. God bless and please tell the family we will all continue to pray that they receive abundant graces in this days and weeks and months to come.

  11. I too am teary eyed with joy! Glory be to God! I never post comments on any website but today I want to “pre-celebrate” God’s mercy. Thank you Charlie, thank you to those who do comment, and thank you to everyone behind the scenes who “man their posts”.

  12. Mary N says:

Great news! You have a truly beautiful heart, Charlie – thank you for all you have done for this young man and his family. It was a wonderful thing to see so many people reaching out to help them. Does my heart good to know there are so many good people out there🙂

  13. Deon says:

Thanks be to God!!! And also to you, Charlie, for leading us, and helping us to recognize what steps we could take to help.

I appreciate being on your team and serving The Lord and the Cronin family in this. This feels a little like a practical drill or dress rehearsal. I was in the military, and sometimes we had “Alerts” to get us ready for war. Before plays in the theater there is a dress rehearsal or walk-through before opening night. Everyone found their marks, lighting and sound cues, etc. your leadership, updates, suggestions, directions mobilized an army, God’s Army, Our Lady’s Army.

I follow your blog all the time, but rarely comment. I just want you to know that your work and words minister to many of us. I feel part of a community here that I frequently don’t have with family, friends, and co-workers. As the world and Storm get darker and many don’t see what’s going on, it’s nice to be associated with others who see The Truth and recognize Gods hand and Will.

I hope both you and your sister have good health. Know you are in my prayers. My sincere thanks and filial love,

Maybe I missed something on reading on here as to this situation……………..
Let it go really is all I could say. Let it go…………..

    • charliej373 says:

Well, Murt, as I will share in my final update today, young Joe is now showing independent signs of life….enough so that the hospital he is at is going to perform surgery on him in the morning to repair his throat so he can breathe independently and be fed properly. Your cynical comment makes me awfully glad you weren’t his advocate. There is no talk now of brain-death.

God Bless you, Charlie Johnston and everyone who took action in this situation! Thank you, dearest Lord, for the power of prayer, the intercession of your saints and St. Michael and his legion of warring angels. Now, we pray for the miracle Joey needs to bring him back to life. We pray, we trust, we believe as we present Joey to Our Lord for healing.

I feel privileged to be a small part of this effort. I sent an e-mail, and prayed – small things. But so many of us doing small things has enabled us to do a great thing. I know we’re not out of the woods yet, but we’re on our way. Thank you, Charlie, for sharing this story and enabling us to be of help.

Praise the Lord both now and forever! Wonderful news, Charlie. What a blessing to be part of such a community of love and prayer and action. How good God is, all the time. I shall continue to pray and offer Masses and rosaries until Joey is at Healthbridge. Thank you Charlie for manning the ship, and may you have very restful sleep!

Just introduced to this blog a few weeks ago! Yay! I am very encouraged to know that Our Daddy is gathering quite a crowd of warriors! Happy to report for duty! All praise and honor to Him as He shows who is in charge of dear Joe.

  21. Mary says:

Mary and Michael, I said your miraculous prayer of trust and tried my best not to worry. The dynamic duo.

  22. Wonderful news and an answer to our prayers. Let all continue praying Joe and his family.

  23. MMBev says:

Please all of you reading: You are all aware that we were not just fighting against Driscoll Hospital. it will still want it’s “pound of flesh”, especially if all works out and Joey is transferred. There will be an attempt for someone to pay the price, and the first in line of defense was Charlie. Each of us need to be prayer warriors for him and for his family. Next we must all be aware of the fact that we too may expect some retribution. But God’s grace is far greater, and covers this entire event and all of us. But we need to intercede for Charlie, his family and for each other. Those of us who do not live in the United States were primarily only able to pray for a positive outcome. I am flabbergasted at the edeavours that I watch happening before my eyes as all of you went to work. Without what you accomplished, Charlie would not have been able to achieve anything alone. God wants us to work together and is giving us a “trial practice” before we start big time–often individually in the future. Knowing how this has gone down, we won’t forget to intercede for each other should contact be lost for a short time. TOGETHER WE ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST.

I am sharing your tears of gratitude and relief for this hopeful news. I am also in awe at what has just happened here with the Church militant. It feels like something very significant. Praise God!

  25. Bob says:

God bless and good work Charlie. I will continue to pray for Joey, that God, his family and the hospital will allow Joe and his family the time for him to either heal by God’s grace or to experience a permanent eternal healing, if that is God’s will. About a month ago in our parish we had an incident in which the niece of a friend who was pregnant learned the baby was deformed. Her parents faced strong pressure to abort, but with many prayers and support were given the grace to submit to God’s will and the baby did die miscarried, so pray for J (full name withheld in case any parishioners are reading) and her family for peace and healing in that.
And Charlie, for you too, perhaps our dear Sherpa will be given a heavier load now that his name has been shared with many more persons. I am sure many more will check out his site. So let’s pray for Charlie too.

Did you ever get that nap? If so, it must have been a cat-nap!

  27. Diane says:

As Julian of Norwich is so fond of saying – all shall we well
Amen to all the prayer warriors and we will fight the good fight – we are on the side of Truth and Love – all is well

  28. Fran says:

Charlie, I have received a message from a friend just now, and it may still be important for the family to know. I am going to forward the email to you, but I am told that there are two Carmelite institutions that care for patients in comas, even though their websites do not show this particular ministry. I will put “Joe Cronin–Carmelite Institution” in the message box. My friend told me that she can provide a personal contact if needed.

  29. Mary Fran says:

This is indeed good news to wake up to this Sunday morning. Always happy for good news. Have been praying for Joey.
