(I have been without internet service most of the day. I am posting this from a McDonald’s. Hopefully it will be resolved tomorrow, as I have several things to cover.)
Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick –no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.” So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them. –-Today’s Gospel Reading; Mark 6:7-13
Holy Mother, Immaculate Conception, you came to Lourdes at a time when the world thought itself too wise to trust your Holy Son, a world wracked with division and sorrows as it relied less on Him who saves and more on its own knowledge. You came to a young girl, Bernadette, who was considered ignorant by her schoolmates, but who was consumed with a great love for God and for those around her. Through her, you confounded the wisdom of the wise, showing that there is only one wisdom that gives life, the wisdom that rises from your Holy Son. By your intercession, may Our Lord heal young Joey Cronin, inspiring us all to go forth, armed with faith and cloaked with the love of Christ, to spread that healing power to all ends of the earth.
