A Request, Russia and Doom for Jihadi John

A few musings and links to end the day…

I am working on a very substantial piece which I hope to have up tomorrow or Saturday morning. Meantime, I will make my last public presentation of this tour of visits on Sunday, October 25, at 1 p.m. at Ramkota Hotel, 1400 8th Ave. N.W. Aberdeen, South Dakota.

*********

It is said that the Navy is run by the Chiefs – the Chief Petty Officers. I think that is true, but I KNOW that this tour of visits has been a success because of the co-ordinators who stepped up in nearly every region of this country. Because of the press of business, I have not communicated with them as a group as I would like to – and should. These are people who have made a radical commitment to trust God, take the next right step and be a sign of hope to those around them. Setting up regular lines of communication with the regional coordinators will be one of my top projects come December.

Jeanne Condon, who coordinated my visit to Sacramento, California, asked that I seek the help of readers for Steve Blouin, a Montana man suffering from a deadly cancer. I know we regularly pray for each other here – and many have loved ones suffering greatly. But when any regional coordinator asks me for something reasonable and doable, I will do it. They stepped up to spread the message; I will step up for them. (And you all know who you are!)

*********

I am on a group email list that Fr. Joseph Ianuzzi uses to send occasional items of interest to. I was fascinated by this piece he sent to me on The Surprising Rise of Christianity in Russia. It is well worth a read.

*********

Bad news for Jihadi John, the British Jihadist who relishes making the beheading of Christians into a TV reality show. Russian President Vladimir Putin has put him at the top of Russia’s “kill list” of Middle Eastern Jihadists. When a bloody Jihadist gets put atop an American “kill list,” it is often prelude to being declared a moderate “who we can do business with.” When he is put atop a Russian “kill list,” he is a dead man walking. Many Christians will live because Russia has decided to terminate this bloody Jihadist reality show.

*********

While Russian authorities are waging war on the murderous persecutors of Christians, American authorities in Oregon are busying themselves trying to declare Judge Vance Day unfit because he has declined to perform any marriages rather than being forced to perform homosexual “marriages.” Kind of speaks for itself on the relative values and priorities of the two nations. Kill Christians with impunity and you are an enemy of the state in Russia. To take your Christianity seriously makes you an enemy of the state in America.

*********

Henry Kissinger was U.S. Secretary of State back when America was still a great power. He was certainly the most consequential professional diplomat of my lifetime. Considering the utter collapse of stability in the Middle East, he penned a piece for the Wall Street Journal on how to find a pathway out of collapse. I think Russia has beat him to the punch.

Charlie Johnston is a former newspaper editor, radio talk show host and political consultant. From Feb. 11, 2011 to Aug. 21, 2012, he walked 3,200 miles across the country, sleeping in the woods, meeting people and praying as he went. He has received prophetic visitation all his life, which he has vetted through a trio of priests over the last 20 years, and now speaks publicly about on this site. Yet he emphasizes that we find God most surely through the ordinary, doing the little things we should with faith and fidelity. Hence the name, The Next Right Step. The visitations inform his work, but are not the focus of it. He lives in the Archdiocese of Denver in the United States.

He try’s to go to work everyday to support his wife who will soon have a baby. I’ve been going thru this storm for quite sometime. I lost my other daughter to cancer. I trust the Lord completely and will not lose heart at the end of the day.

The real storm is now coming. Gaze at Fatima and all will be revealed. Russia will be the instrument to punish the world. Portugal will maintain the faith. Funny but nobody tells that story anymore. That is profound…

St Padre Pio once said that Russia will give America a lesson in conversion. One hopes that Russia’s conversion is real and lasting; may the graces of its return to faith wash away the evils it spread throughout the world in the 20th century.

I personnaly know the Blouin family. Please visit their web link and offer prayers and any financial support if you feel called to give. Steve is a devout catholic who loves Jesus and Our Lady. He is a great husband and father. I believe his heaviest cross is not the cancer that is killing him, it is the fact that he can no longer provide and take care of his family. Please pray for God’s will and peace for the family. Thank you and bless you all.

praying for John Paul – that God will pull him away from all that troubles one so young and draw him into His Heart – God has a plan for that young man’s life and God’s plan for Him will prevail. Many of our yourth struggle at that age and prayer is needed to help them be who God created them to be. May the angels surround John Paul with guidance and protection.. You are all in my heart. Love. I do.

Wow, I just saw this about Hurricane Patricia:
    http://www.weather.com/storms/hurricane-central/patricia-2015/EP202015

It has become the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere, and it’s about to give Mexico a huge whack (maybe 30-foot up to as much as 40-foot waves hitting the beaches).

It went from Cat 1 at 7am CDT yesterday (Thursday Oct 22) to a 200-mph Cat 5 before midnight that night. Astounding.

So I have to ask: What happened just before 7am yesterday to trigger this? Is it purely meteorological, or did some event in human activities that is meaningful for The Storm occur somewhere in the world just before this intensification?

Anyone care to comment or to answer my question? Meanwhile, this is a killer storm, so we need to pray for those in its path. I just prayed the PMT, asking for the intercession of St. Peter, who we know got an important lesson about how to handle storms.

Senate hearing on Benghazi happened yesterday.. Not sure any correlation. Will another liar get off easy? Most likely….. God help us and spare us…… Much maneuvering occurring in DC currently. No reply necessary but why the heck was CRAZY Joe Biden giving a press conference the day before the hearings stating he wasn’t running for president??? Paul Ryan who is supposed to be Catholic is now the desirable canidate for Speaker of the House by the DEMOCRATS ?? Paul Ryan is a Rebuplican . What dirty deal did he agree to??? Again no comments necessary just observations to your above question as to what happened … If California gets hit maybe due to Moonbeam Jerry Brown signing in euthansia while Texas did the right thing and defunded Planned Parenthood. All these Catholics in name only politicians in DC and Sacramento give the real Catholics a bad rap. Just shows when you’re not focused on Christ – you go off your rocker ( crazy for those who don’t understand the cliché).

In fairness, Paul Ryan does not need the votes of Democrats to win. To accuse him of some dirty deal to get votes he doesn’t need and knows he doesn’t need is overheated, JG. Be fair.

Steve, I remember when the Northridge earthquake hit LA in 94 I heard that over 90% of the porn industry was destroyed, at least for a little while. When I heard about Hurricane Patricia today, I immediately thought of the drug cartels and their evil members. Maybe Patricia will wipe out the drug warehouses and and all the drugs themselves. Wouldn’t that be wonderful! Of course I pray for protection for everyone in the path of the storm.

Every day I pray for an end to the Islamic State and its barbarism. But even if Putin is going after JJ, he’s not actually fighting the Islamic state. Putin’s goals in Syria are actually allowing ISIS to gain more territory:

Mack, I have been stunned at how puerile western commentary (including the normally solid National Review) and even professional analysis of Russia and its strategy has been for almost a decade. A day before Russia invaded Crimea and the administration said it absolutely would not happen, several old colleagues out east called to get my take. I told them of course it would. Regardless of whether it had caused the problem or not, it had to to protect its warm water port, so it would. Shortly after that, some of the same people called about western Ukraine and new reports that that was next. I told them not to worry – Putin would threaten, but it would only be a bargaining chip. Western Ukraine offered many problems and few benefits – so Putin would use western cluelessness the threaten, but was unlikely to actually invade Ukraine, for it was not in his perceived national interest to do so. And Putin, while bold, is quite predictable – he always acts in his perceived national interest from his framework of making Russia the great power and defending against the inevitable confrontation with China. I was right on both counts, the media-governmental complex was wrong on both. I think the incoherence of American foreign policy has blinded American commentators from actually seeing coherent national interest politics for what it is.

The estimable Charles Krauthammer starts to get a clue on this in this article today: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/425952/vladimir-putin-russia-Syria, but even he has not got the gist of it yet. This is a bid for diplomatic dominance in the Middle East – and it is specifically an appeal by Russia to Israel. Do not try to interpret this as a one-move act. This is a brilliantly played maneuver that will require several subsequent move to succeed, but the payoff for Russia is enormous. Let me explain:

Bashar Assad is a monster, rightly seen as a pariah in all the world. Few nations in the Middle East trust Russia. Russia has to get its foothold somewhere – and Syria’s Assad is almost perfect on all counts. First, he is desperate enough to welcome Russia with open arms. If Russia comes in, firmly secures Assad in power, fighting whoever threatens that, Russia accomplishes three things:

1)It gets a major new warm water port from which to project power beyond its borders. A nice notice to China, which has deep maritime ambitions these days.

      2) It gets a client state in the heart of the Middle East.

      3) Most importantly, it demonstrates that an alliance with Russia is a solid bet, even if you are an international pariah. As America has proven it is neither serious foe nor steadfast ally to anyone, this is vitally important in a region which has been going up in flames. Watch as both Saudi Arabia and Egypt make strategic security alliances with Russia. The lesson will not be lost on Israel, a force for freedom and good in the region which is treated like an international pariah. Watch Israel forge serious ties with Russia as it can’t even count on lip service from America any more. It will do so in a way that leaves the door open for a new American leader eventually, but it needs serious dependable allies NOW.

Once Israel has forged strong strategic ties with Russia, the latter is completely diplomatically dominant in the Middle East.

Putin has been brilliant on this. He has to first secure Assad’s rule in Syria to demonstrate he is an indispensably steadfast ally to the others he courts. To do this, the enemies of Assad must be his first target, not ISIS, which constitutes the greater threat. At the same time, he makes Jihadi John, the public face of ISIS, his number one target – even though Jihadi John is not a serious threat to Assad. That signals to the rest of the region that ISIS is Putin’s ultimate target, which adds more urgent motivation to the involved nations to ally with Russia.

This is brilliantly subtle great power statesmanship worthy of a Metternich or Kissinger. When American policy makers and commentators get beyond kindergarten level in geopolitical diplomacy, they may begin to understand it. Some of the folks at National Review have gotten to junior high level, but Putin is running some of the shrewdest power diplomacy the world has seen in a while.

As for those neophytes who ask about Russia’s alliance with China, of course it had to – but only after it saw America had become completely feckless and unreliable. Russia knows China seeks hegemony in the region – and Russia is its ultimate target. Russia bought time because it saw it could not depend on the west…but note that every move Putin makes solidifies Russian defenses against any Chinese aggression.

    Charlie,
In reference to your comments about Judge Vance Day, in Kentucky we’ve already had a Christian who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to anyone following the Supreme Court ruling in July. Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis was jailed for not issuing marriage licenses based upon the new “law.” Her deputy clerks ultimately agreed to issue marriage licenses so she was released from jail after 5 days. She has since altered the marriage licenses so that they don’t include her name as clerk but reference the “authority” of the Supreme Court ruling, and this gesture has also been challenged in court. Not surprisingly, Ms. Davis has been vilified for her stance, by the media and by her own governor, and her personal life prior to her conversion to Christianity has been judged very harshly by those who disagree with her. However, as Teresa Tomeo has said, “Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.” Ms. Davis’s situation made it clear to me that God can call any of us to greatness at any time — I hope we’re all able to answer that call as bravely as she did.

My prayers are with all who are suffering, particularly those with cancer and their families. My husband was recently diagnosed with chronic lymphatic leukemia, so I feel like our storm has broken, albeit very gently since he doesn’t require treatment at this time.

I imagine there is a lot of purification needed in Mexico (as well as everywhere else – even my own home and neighborhood) God has a plan about where, when and who. Our own turn will come at some point. Pray that we all have trust and faith to handle it. I will pray for the people of Mexico. Just out of a strange curiosity I wonder how a politician against immigration would respond to this trial Mexico is facing? Now here we are where we can help and offer assistance to these people, for many may be displaced, injured, suffering. So we don’t know God’s reasons. But I do know we have t be strengthened and learn to lean on and help one another instead of building walls. Just an interesting thought. All lives matter. Excuse me for such a simple mindset. I don’t have time for intellectual battles, only mass, prayer and God’s will! 🙂

    Dear Charlie and All,
This is Steve Blouin’s wife, Margaret, and I wanted to thank you all for your prayers for my husband, Steve. Steve has been given a timeline of about one more month to live without treatment. He was diagnosed on 9/23, Padre Pio’s feast day. It has been our “storm” come to pass and we are hanging on to Jesus on the Cross. Your prayers mean everything to us, now. Thank you, Charlie for posting the link above, concerning Steve and what has/is happening. He is a faithful reader on this blog and is so comforted by the words of hope that he has read, Charlie. We are all in this, together! Let’s storm heaven for Steve and all those who are suffering. May the good Lord heal them, if it be His Will. God bless all of you.

Thanks, Margaret. When I posted the original link at the request of Jeanne Condon, I did not realize that Steve and Margaret Blouin were readers of this website. Then today, having the energy to go through some emails from the last few weeks, I found a note Margaret had sent me. I am going to highlight it again in tonight’s round-up, for I want to give a little extra push for people who have been part of the NRS family.
