A few musings and links to end the day…
I am working on a very substantial piece which I hope to have up tomorrow or Saturday morning. Meantime, I will make my last public presentation of this tour of visits on Sunday, October 25, at 1 p.m. at Ramkota Hotel, 1400 8th Ave. N.W. Aberdeen, South Dakota.
It is said that the Navy is run by the Chiefs – the Chief Petty Officers. I think that is true, but I KNOW that this tour of visits has been a success because of the co-ordinators who stepped up in nearly every region of this country. Because of the press of business, I have not communicated with them as a group as I would like to – and should. These are people who have made a radical commitment to trust God, take the next right step and be a sign of hope to those around them. Setting up regular lines of communication with the regional coordinators will be one of my top projects come December.
Jeanne Condon, who coordinated my visit to Sacramento, California, asked that I seek the help of readers for Steve Blouin, a Montana man suffering from a deadly cancer. I know we regularly pray for each other here – and many have loved ones suffering greatly. But when any regional coordinator asks me for something reasonable and doable, I will do it. They stepped up to spread the message; I will step up for them. (And you all know who you are!)
I am on a group email list that Fr. Joseph Ianuzzi uses to send occasional items of interest to. I was fascinated by this piece he sent to me on The Surprising Rise of Christianity in Russia. It is well worth a read.
Bad news for Jihadi John, the British Jihadist who relishes making the beheading of Christians into a TV reality show. Russian President Vladimir Putin has put him at the top of Russia’s “kill list” of Middle Eastern Jihadists. When a bloody Jihadist gets put atop an American “kill list,” it is often prelude to being declared a moderate “who we can do business with.” When he is put atop a Russian “kill list,” he is a dead man walking. Many Christians will live because Russia has decided to terminate this bloody Jihadist reality show.
While Russian authorities are waging war on the murderous persecutors of Christians, American authorities in Oregon are busying themselves trying to declare Judge Vance Day unfit because he has declined to perform any marriages rather than being forced to perform homosexual “marriages.” Kind of speaks for itself on the relative values and priorities of the two nations. Kill Christians with impunity and you are an enemy of the state in Russia. To take your Christianity seriously makes you an enemy of the state in America.
Henry Kissinger was U.S. Secretary of State back when America was still a great power. He was certainly the most consequential professional diplomat of my lifetime. Considering the utter collapse of stability in the Middle East, he penned a piece for the Wall Street Journal on how to find a pathway out of collapse. I think Russia has beat him to the punch.
