A Breathtaking Piece by Michael Novak

(I am going to spend much of the day working on emails and other such things. I read this piece by Michael Novak in National Review. It gets to the heart of why the public square, deprived of faith, becomes so deeply impoverished and sucks the life and joy away from people. It fits in nicely with what I have been writing of late and what I have in the hopper. It is an important, erudite piece.-CJ)

About charliej373

Charlie Johnston is a former newspaper editor, radio talk show host and political consultant. From Feb. 11, 2011 to Aug. 21, 2012, he walked 3,200 miles across the country, sleeping in the woods, meeting people and praying as he went. He has received prophetic visitation all his life, which he has vetted through a trio of priests over the last 20 years, and now speaks publicly about on this site. Yet he emphasizes that we find God most surely through the ordinary, doing the little things we should with faith and fidelity. Hence the name, The Next Right Step. The visitations inform his work, but are not the focus of it. He lives in the Archdiocese of Denver in the United States.

Oh my goodness, Charlie!!! LOL.. Thanks for telling me because I love to say little Hail Marys for you when you travel and I was envisioning you all safely tucked into your little cabin… playing with squirrels! 😉 BTW My son Frankie and his wife Julie will be in Napa Valley today for a week vacation.. Maybe you could say a little prayer for them? They have been trying to conceive for many many years to no avail… they are 30 and 31. They are a bit downtrodden over it.. Thanks Charlie.. I’ll keep praying for your safety.. God Bless you! xoxo Fellow TNRS 😉

Hope Charlie does not mind me posting this. Full disclosure (NOT approved by the Church). If you google Little Audrey Santos’s website, you can send for a cotton ball with oil on it that exudes from the statues in the room where Little Audrey was when she was living. (We saw her Mother speak at a conference). So far, I ordered 3 cotton balls for people, and it produced the non-miscarriage of one baby (Mother who had lots of troubles before) and 2 babies! 🙂 Both babies were a miracle, as the couples had been trying forever! If it works, let me know. Because I am sure I am going to keep on ordering those cotton balls for people! 🙂 Connie Brickner

Connie is a wonderful lady who was a coordinator in my travels. While Audrey is not approved, neither is she condemned, and I am familiar with several prominent Church authorities who have spoke in admiration of the Santos family. Glad to put it up.

I always talk to the person and see if they want the oil, and have the oil sent directly to the person. So they are ordering, I just help them do the legwork. It says people are to order their own oil.

            Thanks for your post! 🙂

Knowing the Priest assigned to her and knowing athat least one of the Mystics unknown to them that knew Audrey! Her Soul was hardly comatose…

Joining in prayer for Frankie and Julie, Linda. I loved the story a priest shared about sitting on a plane next to Mother Teresa while he told her about his niece who was having difficulty conceiving. Mother Teresa advised praying to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. In a choir which I directed, a member was distraught as he and his wife had tried for so many years to conceive. Everyone in the choir (and the parents of the couple) agreed to touch his/her miraculous medal each day, praying and invoking Our Lady to please bring Sheila a baby… a small prayer offered from big hearts of love for the couple. Prayers were answered. What a Mother!

Linda, I will follow Beckita’s suggestion and pray to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal for the intention that Frankie and Julie be able to conceive, if it be God’s will. (And not to get too personal, but have they considered adoption?)

Thank you Mick.. sorry it took me so long to respond. I don’t know if I’m just too busy with work or what, but I often miss people’s comments to my questions or prayer requests.. so please forgive the lapse of time here… They have thought about adopting but haven’t committed to it yet. What a cross to want a child and not be able to have one. Thank you for your prayers dear Mick! God Bless you! 😉

Hi Linda, Napro can help with male infertility. Here is a link to a brochure with some information on it:
            http://www.fertilitycare.net/documents/MaleFactor2013zx.pdf
Here’s an excerpt from the Napro website:
Can NaProTECHNOLOGY help with male factor infertility?
Yes. If the primary diagnosis is a male factor, couples have had successful pregnancies using NaProTECHNOLOGY. Men with very low sperm counts or anti-sperm antibodies can be treated. Often, improvements in semen quality can be made by healthy lifestyle changes. A number of medical and surgical treatments can also improve semen quality and sperm function. Even if the sperm function is not ideal, evaluating and maximizing the woman’s fertility cycle, together with ideal timing of intercourse will often result in pregnancy. The overall success rate for male factor infertility is around 40%.

Hey Charlie…I read this article that Mary references too…was hoping to find in it a definitive connection between Pope Leo’s vision of October 13, 1884 and Fatima, and the upcoming 100 yr. Annivesary. I don’t believe the author made a direct connection…

HI Mary…FYI…I’ve been trying to determine if there is a direct connection between the two for a project I’m working on. Appreciate any suggestions by all here

Great piece by Novak; he captures in short write-up how mankind has lost its way. One take away is that when we, as a collective society, tell God Almighty to take a hike, then we lose all his protection, his interventions, his guidance, in short, his plenitude of grace. It shows how man, without God, quickly becomes a pursuer of his own self centered ideals, regardless of the long-term consequences. One question I do have, though, is in the article, it quotes Madison as saying, “…Before any man can be considered as a member of Civil Society, he must be considered as a subject of the Governour of the Universe,” then Novak follows by saying, “The beauty of this formulation is that the same rights of conscience belong to atheists as well as theists, to non-Jews and non-Christians…” Now this quotation is in reference to conscience, but here Madison is squarely saying that “atheists” cannot truly be members of the “civil society” unless they are “subject to the Governour of the Universe” (i.e., God). So how have we strayed so far as a society so to uphold atheists as being full fledged societal members, when Madison, our 4th President, clearly expresses the intent of our American Society as was established by the Founders? In other words, according to Madison, we as a People are to worship God as we understand him, but we ARE to worship God. So how do atheists fit in according to this principle?

I think you have misinterpreted him, Greg. He is saying that we are all children of God, subjects of the Governour of the Universe, whether we know it or not. So when we interact with a compatriot, we must not just look at and consider him as a fellow countryman, but as a fellow child of God. He is talking about a fact of nature, not a qualification to become part of that nature.

To all the night owls…just came across an email from a friend of mine. Apparently tonight is a special “Night of Power” when Muslims who are fasting and praying at the end of Ramadan are asking God for a revelation of His truth. On this web site, you can pray along with others and add your own prayers for the intention that they will receive the message of Jesus Christ as their Saviour through a dream, vision, or interior message. Only takes about 15 minutes to listen, then add your Rosary or other devotion if you wish. Link: http://www.prayforthem.com

Michael Novack is right on the money. The world has changed from doing what is right and correct to what feels good and doesn’t hurt feelings. If Christianity has raised the world from barbarism to civilization with a soul to an era that brings us back to the barbarism of the past. From understanding and mercy to unforgiveness and if it feels good do it but don’t worry about that God behind the curtain, he isn’t there. Our schoolbooks have been changed so the Forefathers are nothing more than dead presidents. Our TV shows are mind numbing nonsense and hard to watch without a bag of marijuana at your side. Since the 60’s our universities have changed from teaching the past to changing the future so everyone is equal, no one is different except those who are uneducated as they are archaic in their thinking and try to pass on family values and traditions of the past. Only the educated understand there is no God and since that is the case we have no reason to concern ourselves with the concerns of our mothers and fathers because they believe in nothing more than myths. I remember a very nice young man with short hair and a quick smile in the late eighties who worked in a store and was very excited about going to college. On his return the following summer he had long hair and his quick smile was gone, in our conversation he brought up the fact that so many trees were being cut down that it just made him sick and that if he ever caught someone killing a tree he would KILL them. I was astonished and told him so, he just shrugged his shoulders, leered at me saying I didn’t get it. Now our students and teachers refuse any other thought on campus than theirs, they are nothing more than brown shirts lacking the clubs and knives hitlers thugs used concerning political correctness. To the educated, America is bad and socialism (Bernie sanders and hillary clinton) is good never mind the 100M plus people killed in the 20th century due to communism, they just did it wrong. What boggles my mind is that the first killed in any change of government are the professors and then the media, paper and otherwise. But all in all this makes sense considering our Repulican leaders and we, have become complacent, we have allowed the powers that be, raise our children till we have no say in their education. We have been caught up in the feel good generation for 50 yrs now, we have gone from long haired hippies in haight ashbury to hippies with short hair in Washington DC spurned on by Godless men and women far superior in mind (ahem) telling them what to believe because the American people are stupid and need to be told what to do. A woman who even 40 yrs ago would be excoriated on the front pages of every newspaper in America is probably going to win the election this year despite the constant charges and drama brought against her. Need more proof? Just look at the idiot tv shows they watch. Thank God the fullness of the storm approaches, the last bastion of Christianity and Freedom is coming to its end.
We Pray for all the world, all the troublemakers, all who will go through the storms crash and into the liberty of the rescue. All will be changed, we will all suffer for even a good man sin’s 7 times a day and few rely on God alone. We live at a time that is historic in the biblical meaning second only to the birth of Jesus. We are being readied by our Lord Jesus guided by His dear Mather Mary to help a world that has lost it’s way.

Yep–his writing is not only “breathtaking,” but luminous! It is clarity and a lamp unto my feet. Nothing hidden–all out in the open for all to see. His article passes my test:

  12. Truthfully, Charlie, I struggled through that one. I understood a little bit of it, but it took me back to my college days when the professor gave you some poem or short story that was way over your head and you were supposed to write some big paper on it. I’m so glad there’s no assignment on that piece! I figure as long as I keep Jesus and Mary and the sacraments as my priorities, I don’t have to understand the cultural, political our ethnic stuff. (Although some of it that I can understand is very interesting).
