An Apology with Clarification

The Archdiocese of Denver issued the press release quoted below in response to a column I published on February 7. I regret that I was not fully clear on what I meant. The Rescue which I referenced, the “Process of Rescue,” as having been “fully approved by the Church” was not Charlie Johnston’s prophecy. I was referencing Our Lady’s promise at Fatima that, “in the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.” I thought that was clear because I mentioned that this process of rescue connected to Our Lady’s promise had begun before Johnston was born. Looking back, I can see how a reader might see some ambiguity and think it was referencing Johnston. I apologize for the ambiguity.

Below is the text of the news release, which can also be read at the website of the Archdiocese of Denver here.

Statement on false claim regarding Charlie Johnston’s messages
PRESS RELEASE:

Executive Director of Communications

Karna.Swanson@ArchDen.org

Mrs. Beckie Hesse, using the online profile “Beckita,” stated in a Feb. 7, 2017 blog post titled “The RESCUE Has Begun” that the messages of the alleged visionary Mr. Charlie Johnston, who resides in the Archdiocese of Denver, “have been fully approved by the Church.” In order to ensure that the faithful are correctly informed, it is necessary to publicly state that Mrs. Hesse’s claim is false.

In fact, Mr. Johnston’s alleged messages were reviewed by an archdiocesan theological commission and Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila determined that the faithful should be warned to be prudent and cautious about Mr. Johnston’s predictions. In addition, Mr. Johnston is not permitted to speak in Church-owned venues in the Archdiocese of Denver. Read Archbishop Aquila’s message, here.

The events of 2016/17 have shown that Mr. Johnston’s alleged visions were not accurate and the Archdiocese urges the faithful not to condone or support further attempts to reinterpret them as valid.

About Beckita

Beckita, widow, mother and grandmother, lives in Missoula, Montana. After more than thirty years of service, she retired from two careers: elementary school educator and director of liturgical music ministry in a local parish. Serving the Catholic Church in many capacities since early childhood, she now provides care for a nearly 90 year old priest of Chinese origin and collaborates with him in evangelizing the Chinese people. For more than twenty-five years, she has welcomed words from heaven concerning these sobering times in which we live and, like so many, takes seriously Our Lord and Our Lady’s call to intercede for the return of souls to God. Responding to heaven’s call for prayer, for her, included making pilgrimages to shrines in Europe, Asia and South America. She says these travels, added to her years as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa in the mid-seventies, have expanded her heart to hold dear all peoples of the world. She is a longtime member of TNRS community and when she began reading Charlie’s posts, immediately, she found that his mission and message harmonize well with Church approved private revelation of our times. In September 2015, she accepted an invitation to become part of TNRS Answers Team. As events of the Storm evolved, last fall (2016), she accepted Charlie’s invitation to become managing editor of TNRS should he need to leave the site. With great gratitude to and for Charlie, founder of TNRS, and with great respect and admiration for the lifelong experiences and God-given gifts he brought to bear on his work at this site - she knows we all know he’s irreplaceable – still, she considers it a great privilege to serve the TNRS community.

I read the Archdiocese of Denver’s statement on Charlie Johnston.

Then I read what Beckita actually wrote and not what the diocese said that she wrote. I think that the diocese totally misread and misquoted Beckita’s post. I understood what she wrote in a split second. I am not a Charlie Johnston promoter or defender, but I believe that the diocese has made a terrible libelous mess.

    Here is what Beckita wrote:

“The PROCESS of RESCUE had already begun, before Charlie was born, as, mainly, Our Lady and, sometimes, Our Lord had been appearing on earth, giving guidance and exhortation concerning ways, for those who would listen and take up the cause, to repair spiritual damage, resist the onslaught of our Mother’s adversary and reclaim souls due to rising forces of evil. The messages which have been fully approved by the Church, deserve consideration in order to cull the spiritual treasures which enable us to more fully participate in the process of rescue, for every soul that returns to God impacts both the individual soul, so precious to God, and mitigation.”

I believe that Beckita is not writing about Charlie’s messages, she’s writing about the messages of Our Lady and Our Lord given before he [Charlie] was born which have been fully approved by the Church. A simple example would be Fatima.

Beckita is an intelligent woman who knows that Charlie’s messages have not been fully approved by the Church. Someone from the diocese should’ve communicated with her or Charlie instead of posting such an absurd and libelous announcement by his diocese.

With all due deference to all, I believe Charlie’s article (October 2014) on the Ukraine and Medjugorje would be a good read.

        https://charliej373.wordpress.com/2014/10/31/prophecy-unfolds-hidden-before-our-eyes/

His last paragraph tying in East & West is as follow:

“…What does it all mean? Well, this is what is worth contemplating in our hearts. I am often struck at how bitterly and viciously Christians will argue over a jot or a tittle of private revelation while remaining astonishingly unaware of the great miracle, the stately procession of ancient prophecy unfolding right before our eyes. If you want to contemplate prophecy, both ancient and modern-day, start here. Abandon preconceptions and see things for what they are. You will be startled to discover the framework of the new era already rising before us. We are just too blinded by the dust and racket to see it for what it truly portends.”

Suffice to say, one must read the entire article for the complete picture.

My best guess for an explanation is that the archdiocese did not misunderstand at all but wished to clear up any misunderstandings of the faithful going forward. It was a way to restate their position and get in front of a problem rather than chase one. I’m so glad God is in charge and I know Beckita can take it, though I also have a gut feeling that Beckita was thrown under the bus this time, which hurts me. Sorry Beckita. Here is where we practice forgiveness, and I do believe it is forgiveness and not denial that will close this chapter. 😊Our Lady of Fatima — pray for us.

This is taken from the site that published Beckie’s personal details and advised people to write to her bishop whose address was also provided. This is the kind of double talk that informed the Diocese. We all know who deals in double talk. The malice directed at Charlie and Beckie was extreme. As has already been said, Beckie has been great in her example of charity and restraint.

Dan, you state that “…Charlie’s messages have not been fully approved by the Church.”. I think that is just a wee bit misleading. By saying his messages have not been “fully” approved you are implying that his messages are partially approved. Charlie’s messages are not approved whatsoever by the Church.

      • Phillip Frank says:

        David,
By the church not condemning Charlie’s writings they were “approved” for discernment by the faithful.
I think it is important to remember that the laity are part of the “system” the magesterium uses to descern whether a particular devotion, message, etc, is from God or not.
The “fruits” of these devotions must be given time for fruition which have taken centuries in some cases.
The important issue is that they have been “cleared” of error by the church and “allowed” to be followed with prudence (caution). But there was no condemnation or haulting to our freedom to follow them.
A second caution was administered about Charlie’s innacurate assessment of the election turmoil, but still no condemnation.
As far as being totally accurate and fruitful, only time will tell but the church knows that God has to be given His time to work out our salvation as we are truly a stiff-necked people.

  5. Hi Beckita,

I had no confusion at all about what you wrote. You were referencing the messages that have been fully approved by the Church, but rereading your post I can see how it could be misunderstood. (“which” versus “that” usage?). Well, it’s good to know that our shepherds are continuing to watch over their flock.

The Archdiocese’s last sentence, however, rubs me the wrong way. They didn’t specify which events of 2016/17, and besides ’17 is still in its infancy. It seems to be a sweeping generalization that suggests all of Charlie’s alleged visions are inaccurate. Although they didn’t state so explicitly, I hope this was not their intent.

Ah, how flawed verbal communication is even with such a wonderfully expressive language as English.

Nonetheless, your obedience to the Church should be saluted, B.

Also, the insinuation by the Archdiocese that you as leader of this blog, included in the term “faithful,” are in any way condoning or attempting to reinterpret Charlie’s alleged visions is…annoying. Nothing could be further from the truth, Beckita, about how you are leading this Ministry or its mission: Trust. Do. Love.

You, Beckita and TNRS team have been very careful in the postings and have encouraged all here to concentrate on Charlie’s message of acknowledging and trust in God, taking the next right step and to be a sign of hope and joy to others. That is the best way to draw others to the Lord. This community is such an encouragement to me and I have learned so much from all who post here. Then if a big miracle happens the diocese one by one will come out and denounce the same sex marriage scandal. And we might even be able to call ourselves Roman Catholic and universal again. Praised be Jesus and Mary.

    Dear Beckita,

Prayers for all who love this site and for those who don’t. God knows Charlie’s heart and intentions. Charlie specifically cautioned that people trust in Jesus’ words and not his own. It is interesting that the diocesan letter cautions people about the same things that Charlie himself does. I am reminded about the trials of saints like St. Pio, who was not understood and was doubted and even despised, and St, Benedict, whose own confreres sought to poison him,. Of course that is not what the diocesan letter does, but it does question him, like others were questioned. This questioning is good and this letter is good also. Much fruit will come of all of this. There will be those who use this letter to despise Charlie though. That is not good, but fruit will come out of that too, although I wish that he wasn’t misunderstood in that way. His heart and trust in God is beautiful and beautiful and his complete trust in God is a light in the darkness.

I pray for many blessings for you, Beckita, for Charlie and for all who encounter this site.

I find it very sad that they didn’t contact you first, Beckita, to verify what you meant before assuming what you meant. Even in this writing I can see how humble you are! I understood that you were talking about the messages approved by the church because Charlie has clearly stated that his are not, as yet, approved, nor are the majority of his messages for the world but for him. It really bothers me that people make assumptions before they know the entire story or background. Jesus said it best…Matthew 7:1-2.

SMAC, perhaps the difficulty some may have had is pulling the word “Rescue” from Charlie’s past posts, into the Fatima message…In the original post, I understood the word to be an Analogy of Mary’s Fatima Message…Mary never said she was going to “Rescue” us, but she did say “in the End My Immaculate Heart will Triumph”, that sounds quite a bit similar to a Rescue…There is nothing wrong with the TNRS Team and the many people here interacting through this site for support…They are not, and have not been saying anything contrary to Church Teaching…what I have read is always pretty innocuous from them. It has to be difficult beyond comprehension to believe you are to shout from the mountains to the world, even that your salvation might depend upon it. Jonah ran away, and away, One must do what they believe God is telling them, unless it is against Church teaching, or is to hurt other people. This site’s purpose has been to help people, to encourage people and that is exactly what the Good News has always done, what the Apostles did, and what today’s New Evangelization is about…Peace SMAC

The title of Beckitas writing “The rescue has begun” is what captured attention, as it seemed to lead people to believe Charlie’s prophecy had begun… Maybe it should have been titled “The Immaculate heart of Mary, will Triumph”…
I realize that many of you have bonded nicely here, that’s a good thing, but continuing to say Charlie was right, and twisting scenarios to attempt to justify, is not good…
Continue to prayer for each other, and lift each other’s spirits, but put an end to the second guessing, as Charlie obviously has…
The rescue began when Jesus said “It is finished”…..He gave His life to save our souls.
Acknowledging God, is as old as Moses, it’s the first commandment… If you obey the first commandment, your next step with be right… If you obey the first commandment, you will be a sign of hope for others… Love God with all your heart, mind and soul… and love one another as Jesus loves you.. Excellent point, Will: “The rescue began when Jesus said “It is finished”…..He gave His life to save our souls.”

And my point was, and continues to be, that we each participate in Christ’s rescue as co-redeemers with Him by invitation from the Sacred Scriptures. St. Paul tells us:”I am now rejoicing in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am completing what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church.” From childhood, long before I knew Charlie Johnston, my spirituality has been shaped by the understanding that our lives are filled with possibilities for offering our suffering in union with Jesus as redemptive suffering. From childhood, this has been phrased in language such as “saving souls” or “rescuing” them.

We will continue here with focus on taking next right steps which will include prayer efforts that include the prayer of doing. By God’s Grace, we will bring hope to a hurting world. The invitation to Nineveh 90 is but one example of the possibilities to carry on in solidarity. God bless you.

I was taught the difference between a relative clause in apposition (“the messages, which have been approved”) and an adjectival relative clause (“the messages which have been approved”). The latter is the type Beckita used, and should have helped any reader realize, in one more way, that she was not referring to Charlie’s messages. Apparently even carefulness and precision may be wasted on some during these anxious, sensitive times.

Right on, Circuitrighter and Sister Bear. Do they even teach terms or concepts like “apposition” and “relative clause” in schools anymore? I’m doubting it because most schools (at least, most public schools) don’t even teach skills like sentence diagramming anymore. (My dad, an English teacher, retired in 2008. A few years before that, I asked him for the name of a good book on diagramming so that I could supplement my homeschooling materials with it. He looked at me, incredulous, and said, “I haven’t even seen a book on sentence diagramming in years!”) I have to wonder if perhaps Ms. Swanson was never taught the details of grammar and punctuation. I’m not trying to be snide; I’m just wondering if perhaps she’s young-ish (say, under the age of 45) and perhaps may not have the grammatical/punctuation nitty-gritty in her educational background.

Beckita, I knew exactly what you meant when you originally wrote it; and I honestly can’t figure out what the big deal is. I appreciate your humility and charity in your response to the archdiocese; but I must say that Ms. Swanson’s take is a head-scratcher. “Friends, for those of you who attended the meeting with Charlie Johnston in Covington, LA, last year at the Fleur de Lis Center, I think it’s important to emphasize (again) that the Archbishop of Denver later issued a cautionary statement ‘strongly advising the faithful to exercise prudence and caution in regards to Mr. Charlie Johnston’s alleged divine visions and messages.’ I took that message to heart then, and I still do.

“An additional statement was released yesterday that stated, ‘The events of 2016/17 have shown that Mr. Johnston’s alleged visions were not accurate and the Archdiocese urges the faithful not to condone or support further attempts to reinterpret them as valid.’ May God bless Charlie as he continues–like the rest of us–to clearly discern God’s will, ever guided by those with benevolent authority over us.” Kitty Cleveland

  30. I was wondering…..did the Archdiocese contact you, Beckita, before publishing this statement?
My point being did they have your explanation of the post? We….I will speak for myself….knew you were talking about Our Lady and The Fatima message. May I ask…..does the Archdiocese know the message of Fatima?
Golly there are so many problems with communication these days! God Bless you, Beckita and all you do for us that are still here enjoying this blog.

Beckita, I read the post on “The Process of The Rescue” when you first posted, and I fully understood you were referring to Our Lady’s Work since Fatima, not Charlie’s Prophesies. (Personally, if one reads over the reams and reams of apparitions our Sweet Mother Mary has provided to mankind over the centuries, over the c-e-n-t-u-r-i-e-s, whether approved or not, I would say Mother Mary has been working on the Rescue process for her children for centuries!) I don’t believe a person even had to go very deep into your post to realize what you were saying. It is a shame that the person or persons that contacted the Diocese, did not ask you to clarify for them through the post via comments since they evidently did not understand. I also empathize with posting something and having people not understand what you meant, or in fact totally misrepresenting what you did mean, Beckita. It would seem God is allowing some serious Graces for Humility for the TNRS team. I am sure you have offered them back to God for your many good intentions. Peace to you and all, ♥†♥

Glad my point came through with ease for you, avaeadie. Yes, there are many Marian apparitions that have been approved and Our Mother’s intent is to always point us to her Son. At the same time, the caution from the Archdiocese given to us last year is good and sound and I am grateful: “For those who are disappointed by this finding, the archdiocese encourages them to seek their security in Jesus Christ, the sacraments, and the Scriptures. The faithful should also remember Christ’s words: “But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Mt. 24:36).”

Yes, was not saying anything to the Archdiocese’ points, just that in order for the Archdiocese to make their statement, someone had to have contacted them unless they are themselves the source of concern for the statement, in that case, as Dan Lynch mentioned, they must have been the ones to misinterpret the post…and that would seem strange if they read the whole post, but really, things are so upside down everywhere, I suppose it is to be understood, for a while longer.

There are a few enemies of this site. Even now after Charlie has ‘walked away’ those same enemies are intent on shutting this site down. Read the posts in ‘Mystics of the Church’ Same old posters, who for some reason known only to themselves, have a peculiar dislike towards Charlie! Yes.. and they are copying the posts from here, rather selectively, I might add!

So if you are reading this…and you know who you are, then take a good look at your motives. I, and I know others in here, will be praying for you.

          God Bless us all.

Beckita, I sincerely empathize with you. You took this job with the upmost simplicity. Desiring only to carry on with the message Charlie has given us. You are a dear sweet soul who has been caught in something that you never intended. Despite the mentality typical of todays media and the general attitude of some to, shoot first and ask questions later, you have humbly apologized. I hope that is enough but i doubt it. So remember, “Illegitimi non carborundum”… (Loose translation, don’t let the bastards grind you down.) Lots of ❤️ love Jacquie

  33. As I continue thinking and praying over this post……I wonder…..did Bishop Aquila know what this press statement said?
But…..but…..this statement and posts and comments will have people searching Charlie’s posts,
videos, etc and searching about the Fatima apparitions and message. Therefore we may get some new people joining the blog and some more souls saved.
Soooo…..I say, bring it on…..Our Lord and Our Lady want people to know the Truth.

OK back to work on Ninava90. Hope you all are praying hard….I’m struggling but doing what I can.

Well, I concur with the others who have commented and I, too, thought it was quite clear that you were referring to messages previously approved by the Church when you spoke of the “rescue” that has been in progress since before Charlie was born, so I was more than a little surprised and confused when I read about this on Spirit Daily.
My goodness……..things go from zero to 100 in a nanosecond these days. Hopefully your clarification helps set the record straight and ease concerns at the Archdiocese. Thank you for your calm, reasoned, charitable response to the situation. It is what is needed in these divisive, chaotic and stressful times. Prayers and blessings to all here! PEACE!

There is no time in heaven which might explain why the trouble that Charlie predicted to appear prior to the Inauguration…was in the planning stage to impeach President Trump and to destroy all of his meaningful appointees. It is a known fact that Obama never left Washington to be a community organizer of sorts and to dig up whatever he can find against Trump, Pence, and his appointees. The worst is yet to come and I believe that the message was just not clear enough for Charlie to make a more accurate prediction….It seems to me that in only a few short weeks after the Inauguration, it has become obvious that the Democrats/Communists/Obama/Clinton and their cronies above and hidden beneath the surface are out to get Trump and to backstab the American people. Trump should go on the offense and indict Obama for dereliction of duty and trashing the Constitution…traitor that he is before Obama nails him. Then, Trump should investigate George Soros, financier and take away his citizenship, if he has any and send him to jail….in pink shorts! Sheriff Joe Arpaio will take good care of him and Obama and his cronies.

Our world is troubled, to be sure, and our country continues to be in need of much prayer and sacrifice as we also continue taking our next right steps, Jacqueleen. I keep thinking if as many as possible join the Nineveh90 effort to simply pray the 54 Day Novena Rosary in solidarity, how powerful that would be. A true sign of hope. God bless you.

I was able to share this information with a priest in Africa today. It only takes a spark!!! God bless you all.

Joe, the Archdiocese did its duty when ‘informed’ by the enemies of this site. Yes there should have been some communication between them and Beckita in order to verify what she was actually referring to.. and sadly there wasn’t. Still, the Church is the Church and I thank God for them. My thoughts are…where were they when I, and hundreds of others, wrote to them about a certain false seer who was leading the faithful away from the Church. Thankfully God knows and sees all. He turns everything around for His own good. 😀

        Hi Janet
Yes, I agree the Church has a sacred duty to safeguard the Faith, and for its station in this regard I too am grateful.
Its local duty of care for Becks however in exercising this responsibility was very poorly exercised and as you say further checks on sources should have been made before they pilloried her in public. I think of St Pauls exhortation – be angry but do not sin.
I too agree that the Ordinaries seem to be be very selective in the timely application of their powers. I know many people in Ireland for example, wrote to local authorities with relevant and well researched information that was given no action for far too long.
Only a couple of weeks ago I was presented with “The Book of Truth” by two darling old stalwarts of the parish who still adhere to the teachings of that false seer. The reasons for my rejection of their gift and the seer fell on deaf ears.
I believe St Michael has our backs and when we have reached the end of our ability to act in good faith to defend the truth, his fiery sword will be taken from its scabbard and put to good use. I believe in the old saying, “It’s up to God but down to us.”
BTW I loved the cool headed way you dealt with those mongrels who attacked you online. The one who let the dogs out has gone from bad to worse but your diligence in defending the faith was both charitable and well informed. That’s enough from me on this. Time to get back to the priorities of my favourite private revelation, Garabandal – “First lead good lives.” It reminds me of another maxim “First do no harm.”
I have not been to confession for a couple of weeks. Time to go. Mea culpa.

I’m guessing that the Denver Diocese were/is being “fed” negative/biased info by agent provocateurs that have, for unknown reasons, an extreme dislike for Charlie and his mission. I did battle over at MOG with one particular Jihad Jane who was obviously on a mission of personal animosity/destruction. It’s one thing to say a prophet or seer is Full of ****,; it’s quite another to wage a scorched earth campaign. This particular Jihad Jane went as far as personally contacting me and researching my personal details on The Net …. I’d say that is a Strange Stalker Mentality… Eh!!??

Whether or not the Archdiocese misread Beckita’s claim about “Church approval”, the warning in the final paragraph of the Archdiocese’s statement is based on the truth or lack of it to Johnston’s prophecies, and its warning to the faithful still holds:

Yes, days after the inauguration, the repeated efforts to discourage “attempts to reinterpret them” by the TNRS team and Charlie were redundant 😉 Those left who come to the site to read posts are two types…Friends and Foes. And Jesus said, “Forbid [him] not, for he that is not against you is for you.” I think the TNRS team has done a responsible thing to keep the site running for those more fragile souls who could be harmed otherwise. I also understood your meaning referring to Fatima and previous apparitions. Saw Nineveh90 too late to start on time but pray the rosary everyday so 54 days is covered, have done the
33 Day Preparation for Marian Consecration before but plan to do it again come April 10 (if I
remember correctly, will have to check my book). I am reading a book called ‘The Second
Greatest Story Ever Told – Now Is the Time of Mercy’ by Fr. Michael Gaitley . Highly recommended! (I found the Chapter “Amazing Moments in Polish History” where he shows how God used Poland several times -to save the world – or a least Europe) very interesting. Next chapter is about Fatima, can’t wait. Keep up the great work Beckita.
Not sure about all the talk about Obama, being a Canadian, you lost me.
Keeping everyone here (and Trump) in my daily prayers, maybe need to add the Diocese of Denver? God Bless
