Novena for our Nation

The Holy League is promoting a 54 day Novena for our Nation, from August 15th to October 7th. You can sign up and join at any time during its duration which begins soon… on Tuesday, the Feast of the Assumption, and it ends on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. On that day, the 7th of October, there will be a National Rosary Rally in Washington DC.

The National Rosary Rally takes place in Union Square to the west of the US Capitol in front of the Capitol reflecting pool. All four Rosaries will be prayed along with intentions which include:  respect for life at all stages of development; the sanctity of marriage and families; upholding constitutionally protected religious freedom; and the return of our nation to God and Holiness.

Fr. Heilman clarifies:  “Importantly, this is not intended to be a political event.  Our hope is to influence the direction of our country through prayer”.

Over at the website announcing this prayer effort, there is opportunity to sign up to receive a daily email. About the novena:

The time is now to call upon God, through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, to heal our country and return it to holiness.

This is a nationwide prayer campaign called the “Novena for Our Nation.” Everyone from around the nation is encouraged to join ranks as, united, we pray the very powerful 54 Day Rosary Novena from the Feast of the Assumption on August 15 to the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7.

We continue to live in peace-less times with laws and court rulings in conflict with God’s laws; especially the disregard for the rights of the unborn, elderly and weak in our society and the attacks on marriage and family values. Society and many levels of government continue to demonstrate intolerance towards biblically based religious belief and practice. In conflict with First Amendment constitutional rights, persecution of traditional religious expression has reached historically high levels. We are in a Spiritual Battle.

In this centennial year of the apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima, we are called upon to help turn our country back towards God. We will accomplish that through prayer; prayer that can change hearts, change families, change our communities and change our country. There is no stronger weapon in this Spiritual Battle than the Rosary.

From those promoting this prayer effort:

“I wholeheartedly endorse the Novena for Our Nation and the Rosary Rally on October 7 next, the 445th anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto.  I urge as many as are able to participate in these great spiritual works for the sake of our entire nation.”
Cardinal Raymond Burke

“This 54 Day Novena for Our Nation and National Rosary Rally come at a critical and most serious time of crisis in our country.  I cannot think of a more powerful response on the part of Catholics than to pray, fast and come together for the conversion of our nation.”
Fr. Stephen Imbarrato, Priests for Life

“Today we find ourselves in a Spiritual Battle.  Government actions and court rulings are in conflict with God’s law.  Persecution of traditional religious belief and practice is unprecedented.  In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we are called upon to help turn our country back towards God.  We will accomplish that through prayer; prayer that can change hearts, change our families, change our communities and change our country.  There is no stronger weapon in this Spiritual Battle than the Rosary.”
Fr. Richard Heilman, President of the Holy League

Bottom line, for me, is that Our Lady has a phenomenal track record of responding to her children when we unite in pleading for her intercession via a Rosary Crusade. This is a next right step not to miss at this time in our nation and world.

About Beckita

Beckita, widow, mother and grandmother, lives in Missoula, Montana. After more than thirty years of service, she retired from two careers: elementary school educator and director of liturgical music ministry in a local parish. Serving the Catholic Church in many capacities since early childhood, she now provides care for a nearly 90 year old priest of Chinese origin and collaborates with him in evangelizing the Chinese people. For more than twenty-five years, she has welcomed words from heaven concerning these sobering times in which we live and, like so many, takes seriously Our Lord and Our Lady’s call to intercede for the return of souls to God. Responding to heaven’s call for prayer, for her, included making pilgrimages to shrines in Europe, Asia and South America. She says these travels, added to her years as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa in the mid-seventies, have expanded her heart to hold dear all peoples of the world. She is a longtime member of TNRS community and when she began reading Charlie’s posts, immediately, she found that his mission and message harmonize well with Church approved private revelation of our times. In September 2015, she accepted an invitation to become part of TNRS Answers Team. As events of the Storm evolved, last fall (2016), she accepted Charlie’s invitation to become managing editor of TNRS should he need to leave the site. With great gratitude to and for Charlie, founder of TNRS, and with great respect and admiration for the lifelong experiences and God-given gifts he brought to bear on his work at this site - she knows we all know he’s irreplaceable – still, she considers it a great privilege to serve the TNRS community.

Count me in for the Novena for Our Nation.

Regarding questions for the podcast, I’d be interested in Charlie’s take on yesterday’s tragic events in Charlottesville, and on how those events reflect the wider pathologies that are plaguing the soul of our nation.

Praying for those who were killed or injured in Charlottesville yesterday, and praying that those events not trigger widespread violence across the country.

  4. HI Charlie, this question might delve too far into prophecy, but do you believe that the Three Days of Darkness prophesied by many of our Saints over the last several hundreds of years might play any significant role in this period of time?

I ran across this today and thought, wow, Our Lord is so wonderful, generous and this so encouraging; we can pray the Rosary daily for our nation and world and on top of this we also receive many graces:
    1) It gradually gives us a perfect knowledge of Jesus Christ
    2) It purifies our souls, washing away sin
    3) It gives us victory over all our enemies
    4) It makes it easy for us to practice virtue
    5) It sets us on fire with love of Our Blessed Lord
    6) It enriches us with graces and merits
    7) It supplies us with what is needed to pay all our debts to God and to our fellow men, and finally, it obtains all kinds of graces for us from Almighty God.

Linda, I had the same thought and then realised that I could try to organise people (family, friends and fellow parishioners) to do this for my country (Australia). I went to the Australia Needs Fatima website for information about organising a rosary rally to commemorate the centenary of the last apparition. There is a Canada Needs Fatima website too and I’m sure you will find that there are to be rallies all over Canada. You could find one near you or organise one yourself. Also email or otherwise advertise (e.g. Facebook) asking people to offer their daily rosary for your country between 15th August and 13th October. Good luck!

Joining you Carmel, as I’m sure Anne will if she sees your comment here – and any other Australians reading. I haven’t checked yet but maybe Archbishop Fisher has called for a similar effort considering the current dire straits with the upcoming vote – talk about 11th hour – it’s Aug 15th as I write! Dearest Mother, Happy Feast Day – we love you and we really need you!

    • Linda, I, too, have been including the conversion of Canada (and US & Mexico) in my daily Fatima prayer.
Carmel, I will add the conversion of Australia to this daily prayer.
All here are included in my daily rosary/chaplet, usually around 3pm, as well as my daily prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe:
Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mystical Rose, help of all those who invoke you in their necessities! Since you are the ever Virgin Mary and Mother of the true God, obtain for us from your most holy Son, the grace of keeping our Faith, sweet Hope in the midst of bitterness of life, fervent Charity and the precious gift of final perseverance.

Blessings and comfort for all here and thank-you for your prayers for me and mine,

Thank you for your prayers and thanks for the information on Canada Needs Our Lady. There is a rosary rallies across Our Nation too. Thanks be to God! Also, the Bishops across Canada had every church Priest consecrate our country to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Her Feast Day. I’m praying for Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary as we are in dire times and need help from above. Thank you for this website and all the good works you do for Our Lord Jesus and Our Lady. God bless.💝 Linda

There is also on the site an article concerning the upcoming signs in the sky and St. Michael’s Lent. This begins today, the Feast of the Assumption, until Sept. 29, the Feast of St Michael. The article talks about it being more than 40 days, but if you don’t include Sunday’s, as I was taught during Lent, you get 40 days of prayer and fasting.

    God Bless,

The origin of the 54 day rosary is from the Apparation of Our Lady of Pompeii dated to February 16, 1884 to Fortuna Agrelli. The family started a novena of rosaries for her cure on that date. Our Lady appeared with the Divine Child in her lap along with St. Domonic and Saint Catherine of Sienna. Fortuna called Her, Queen of the Holy Rosary. On Her second appearance to Fortuna, Our Lady said, “Whoever desires to obtain favors from me should make three novenas (27) of prayers of the Rosary, and three novenas (27) in thanksgiving.” This was based on the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries. So the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious said 9 times in petition and then repeated 9 times in thanksgiving. It is a laborious novena but a Novena of Love. We can add the Mysteries of Light. Look at each decade as a bouquet of roses to Our Lady. Take a minute to meditate on each mystery. This is helped with the blue booklet on this devotion. The blue booklet is still in publication called Rosary Novena to Our Lady by Charles V. Lacey, Copyright 1926, 1954, Imprimatur, Francis Cardinal Spellman, 9/30/1954. (According to the booklet, it is printed in Canada. Thought that was interestingly.)

Closing Chapter in Lawsuit Ends in Final Victory for Bill Donohue (Catholic League)

      Thanks be to God. ❤
Decades ago I was working to create a Catholic League Chicago Archdiocese Chapter. I served on the Archdiocese Pastoral Council (APC) at the time and on a weekend retreat with the APC at the Mundelein Seminary, Father Robert Barron was kind enough when I asked, to offer to help me. Unfortunately it did not come to fruition due to turmoil in my life around that time. I do appreciate Bill Donohue and the Catholic League's work defending the faith. We are blessed with this victory. Thank you for sharing and allowing me to remember a blast from the past. 🙂

I would like to hear Charlie and Charlie address the following on their podcast.:

The craziness that has been happening lately, especially this last week, reminds me of the movie “The Passion” at the very end when the devil is screaming. It’s seems like the devil is rallying his minions (congressman, media, Hollywood, those who have not “chosen God”etc…) for there final shriek, because he knows that the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is near.

For some reason, today, I thought of these Goals from the 1958 book “The Naked Communist” and how it became part of the 63 Congressional Record. It’s down right chilling how many of these “goals” have been reached and how many are near fruition …. and then The Storm ;-( Some of the goals, 54 years on, are a bit obsolete but most can easily be “converted” to the present:

    • The enemy has accomplished so much in just a few decades. The errors of Russia have indeed spread to our blessed land. This is chilling stuff to read, Crew Dog. I don’t mind losing a game of basketball or pinochle, but to lose my God-loving country like this, to the infernal enemy….

Here is a sign of hope.

My twin brought with her to visit this week a beloved young family whom she and her husband met while in ministry starting in 1998 in Brooklyn, New York. Both of the parents were born in Russia while it was still part of the Soviet Union. They met after immigrating to NYC after the fall of the Soviet Union. Since the mother’s father had died, my brother-in-law gave her away in marriage. They have four beautiful daughters, ranging in age from about 15 to 7.

Both of these lovely and very intelligent people, probably in their 40s now, were born of Jewish ancestry under an atheistic regime. They came to New York after the Soviet Union dissolved. They experienced God and came to believe in Jesus as the long-promised Messiah. In that experience, they became associated with the ministry that my twin and her husband led from late 1998 until they moved to Oregon in 2014.

This evening, before they returned to Salem (where my twin and her husband now live), they held their traditional simple Shabbat blessing in my home (The Motherhouse), blessing their children, but with a Christian understanding. The mother further described her understanding of similarities between the Jewish tradition and the Catholic faith.

Of course. The Catholic faith is on the natural and providential and scriptural continuum of the Jewish faith.

Part of the hope is this: The Soviet Union did everything in its considerable power to crush belief in God and to supplant that with belief in secular authority. It was a miserable substitute. It didn’t work. God reached them, and through them He reaches countless others.

I am writing on behalf of Nancy D. aka nanannda. She wished to “Shine” once more for Jesus by writing a fairwell message to all of you but it appears that will not happen. Two weeks ago, while being treated for something else, it was discovered that Nancy is full of cancer. She is already under hospice care and living more in the next world than this one. Please pray for her family as she is truly the glue that holds them together.

Question for Charlie- Is this still applicable today…. (from one of your blogs last fall):
“My Keen hiking boots ready to go, along with several pair of thermal socks.” ?
If so, do you think the likelihood of using them, on a march to the Capitol, or wherever, has increased?
